India VIX measures the volatility traders expect in the Nifty over the next 30 days, based on options prices. A higher VIX means traders are paying more to protect against big swings.
Why It Matters
VIX tells you how nervous the market is, not which direction it will move.
In India
India VIX spiked above 80 during the 2020 pandemic crash. In calm periods it often sits below 15.
