Hi, I’m Saumya
I started TheMarketDigest because financial news in India is written for people who already understand it. Open any market story and the first paragraph is already talking about basis points, FII outflows and yield curves, words that mean nothing the first fifty times you read them.
So I set out to build the thing I wished existed: the week’s money news explained from zero, every technical word linked to a plain definition, and every example taken from Indian prices, Indian rates and Indian households rather than American textbooks.
Everything here is written for someone who is curious but not a finance professional, especially students who, in the next few years, will open their first bank account, receive their first salary, and get their first “guaranteed returns” message on WhatsApp.
hello@themarketdigest.inMost of us learn about money the expensive way
Very few students in India are ever taught how a bank account, an EMI or a UPI request actually works. We learn later, usually from a mistake: a credit card paid at the minimum, a scheme that promised too much, a phone call asking for an OTP. Then we turn eighteen, open a demat account, and learn everything else from someone online with a course to sell.
TheMarketDigest is my attempt at a better on-ramp. It began with articles and a glossary, and it has grown into a free course, a place for readers to publish their own writing, and Tijori, a Gujarati–English handbook made with Bolbala Charitable Trust for families in Rajkot.
I learn something every time I write a piece for this site. If it does the same for a few readers, that is enough.
Six ways into the same idea
What moved in India’s economy and markets each week, and what it means for a normal household.
A small board of indicators, from the repo rate to the rupee, each with plain-language context.
Every word the articles use, explained the way a friend would, with a real Indian example.
A free beginner course in money, built on real Indian prices, rates and schemes.
Writing submitted by readers, about the money stories they have seen up close.
A financial literacy handbook made with Bolbala Charitable Trust in Rajkot.
Three promises
Nothing on this site tells you what to buy. If a sentence ever sounds like it does, the sentence has failed.
Markets reward patience and punish panic, so nothing here will ever try to scare you into clicking.
Every technical word links to its definition. A term that does not is a bug, and I treat it like one.
One honest disclaimer
Everything here is for learning. Some figures are curated by hand and can lag the live market. Nothing on TheMarketDigest is investment advice. The goal is to help you understand what is happening, not to tell you what to do about it.
