Options
An option gives the buyer the right to buy (a call) or sell (a put) an asset at a set price before expiry. The buyer pays a premium; if the market does not move favourably, the option can expire worthless.
Why It Matters
Cheap options feel like small bets, but most short-dated options expire worthless.
In India
Weekly index options became hugely popular among Indian retail traders before SEBI tightened rules in late 2024.
