Currency Intervention
Currency intervention is when a central bank trades in the foreign exchange market, usually selling dollars from its reserves to support its own currency, or buying dollars to stop it rising too fast.
Why It Matters
Interventions rarely reverse a currency’s direction, but they can slow it and prevent panic.
In India
The RBI was estimated to have sold about $12 billion in a single week in March 2026 as the rupee hit a record low.
