Stock (Share)
A stock, or share, represents part ownership of a company. Shareholders can benefit if the company grows, through a rising share price and dividends, and can lose money if it does poorly. Shares of listed companies trade on stock exchanges.
Why It Matters
Owning a share means owning a tiny piece of a real business, not just a ticker symbol.
In India
Buying one share of a company with a crore shares outstanding makes you the owner of one ten-millionth of it.
