Dividend
A dividend is a cash payment a company makes to its shareholders from its profits, usually announced per share. Companies that are growing fast often pay small or no dividends, reinvesting profits instead.
Why It Matters
Dividends turn a share into a source of income, not just a bet on price.
In India
State-owned companies such as Coal India are known for paying relatively large dividends.
