Quota

A quota caps the quantity of a product that can be imported, or allows a set quantity at a lower tariff with higher tariffs beyond it. Quotas let countries open sensitive markets gradually.

Why It Matters

A quota protects domestic producers while still letting some competition in.

In India

Under the India–EU deal, lower tariffs on European cars apply only to a limited number of vehicles each year.
