Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff

Under World Trade Organization rules, a country must give every member the same “most favoured” tariff rate, unless they have a free trade agreement. MFN rates are the normal, non-discriminatory tariffs.

Why It Matters

When special tariffs lapse, goods fall back to MFN rates.

In India

When the US temporary tariff expired in July 2026, most Indian exports briefly returned to MFN rates before a new tariff took effect.
