Domestic Institutional Investor (DII)

DIIs are Indian institutions, chiefly mutual funds, insurance companies such as LIC, banks and pension funds such as the EPFO and NPS, that invest in shares and bonds. Their buying is fuelled by household savings.

Why It Matters

Steady DII buying has made Indian markets far less dependent on foreign money.

In India

In 2026, DIIs bought heavily on most days that foreign investors sold, funded largely by monthly SIPs.
