Anchor Investor
Anchor investors are qualified institutional buyers who are allotted shares one working day before an IPO opens, at a price within the band. They must hold part of their shares for a lock-in period.
Why It Matters
Strong anchor demand signals professional confidence to everyone bidding later.
In India
Large IPOs often raise several thousand crore from anchor investors before opening to the public.
