Unicorn

A unicorn is a startup that reaches a valuation of at least $1 billion before listing on a stock exchange. The term was chosen because such companies were once rare.

Why It Matters

A unicorn valuation is set by investors in private deals, and can change sharply when the company lists.

In India

India has over a hundred unicorns, including companies like Zepto and Razorpay.
