Rule of 72
Divide 72 by an annual growth rate to estimate how many years it takes for something to double. At 8% a year, money doubles in about 9 years. The same rule works for inflation: at 6% inflation, prices double in about 12 years.
Why It Matters
It turns abstract percentages into a time you can picture.
In India
A ₹2 lakh investment growing at 12% a year roughly doubles every six years, to ₹4 lakh, then ₹8 lakh, then ₹16 lakh by year 18.
