Demographic Dividend
A demographic dividend arises when the share of working-age people is high relative to children and the elderly. With more workers supporting fewer dependants, a country can save, invest and grow faster, if those workers find productive jobs.
Why It Matters
A young population is an opportunity only if it is educated and employed.
In India
India has one of the youngest large populations in the world, with a median age under 30, and the window for its dividend is expected to stay open for a couple of decades.
